Commenting on Sir Ming Campbell's election as next leader of the Liberal Democrat party, London's Lib Dem Euro-MP Baroness Sarah Ludford said:

"I am delighted at this result. Under Ming's interim leadership we have already gained an extra MP in the House of Commons. Under his full leadership we are set to gain many more."

"Ming has the ability to unite all strands of liberalism and all the talents in our party in marking out our distinctive territory in British politics. The party must now come together and give a warm welcome to our new leader at this weekend's conference."
